I, for one, have been listening to music for my entire life and I know many people who grew up listening to music. Music influences people and people shape their life around music. Music can brighten anyone’s day. The great thing about music is that it comes in many different styles: Pop, Jazz, Classical, Country, Blues, Rock and Roll, Rap, Hip Hop and Techno, to name a few. Known composers during this period were: Guillaume Dufey, known as the transitional figure to the Renaissance. Johannes Ockeghem, Jacob Obrecht, and Josquin Desprez were also known during this time. Many composers tried to experiment with cantus firmus, which was based on the Gregorian Chant from the Middle Ages (Major Events in Renaissance Music). Also during this time, The Council of Trent met from 1545 - 1563 to discuss complaints against the Catholic Church including its music, which was mostly chorales and hymns meant for congregations to sing (Major Events in Renaissance Music). The Baroque Age The Baroque Age was between 1600 - 1750 A.D. It followed the Renaissance and preceded the Classical Period (Baroque Music.com). Bach, Handel, and Vivaldi were the three greatest composers of the Baroque Age (Bach Handel Vivaldi). Bach’s greatest compositions for solo instruments were: Six Suites for violoncello and the Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin (Sherrane, Johann Sebastian Bach). Handel’s most important work was his oratorio, Messiah, which contains well known choral music (Bach Handel Vivaldi). Vivaldi, in his lifetime, composed more than 500 concertos including more than 200 violin solos.
